10 million children worldwide love the Toniebox, and our daughter is one of them. It all started when she received the pink Toniebox for Christmas at the age of three. The easy operation quickly convinced us as parents. Even small children can listen to their favorite songs and stories independently without constantly asking Mom or Dad. Just place a Tonie figure on the box and adjust the volume with their ears. Rewind and fast forward is done by tapping or tilting the box. And since the box is so robust, it can withstand a little fall or tumble. After all, the little ones are not always gentle with their belongings.

Thanks to the cute Tonie figures, the little ones can immediately recognize which content they can play with the figure. Whether Tonies, Clever Tonies, Book Tonies, or Creative Tonies: the selection of Tonie figures has grown over the years, and there are suitable audio plays and children's songs for every child. And if not, they can easily be stored on one of the Creative Tonies. The figures can even be played with, which additionally stimulates their creativity.

Even today, at nine years old, my daughter still enjoys listening to a story with the Toniebox after school or before bedtime. It has simply become a lovely ritual to relax and unwind after a long day.

Since September 2025, a new version of the well-known Toniebox is available. You can purchase it for 109.99 euros (RRP), for example, directly on the Tonies website. It is also available as a starter set with a Creative Tonie and as bundles with several Tonie figures.

But what can the new Toniebox do that the old version cannot, and what new features are there? As big fans of the Toniebox, we were even more excited to test the new Toniebox 2. My daughter naturally wondered first if her old Tonie figures would work on the Toniebox 2. And to answer that right away: Yes, they do! Luckily, because her collection of Tonie figures has grown quite a bit over the years. We have already introduced her favorite Tonie figures in more detail on the blog.

First, we noticed the new, modern design with rounded corners and the glowing LED ring on top. The box looks stylish and fits perfectly in the children's room. It is so robust that it can withstand small falls and feels even softer and more pleasant. The Toniebox 2 is available in four colors: red, moon gray, sky blue, and pink.

While the previous Toniebox was recommended for children aged three and up, the new version is suitable for toddlers aged one year and older. Thanks to the interactive, screen-free gaming feature Tonieplay, the Toniebox 2 remains exciting for older children up to 9 years and beyond. There are games for different age groups. Whether alone, with friends, or with the whole family. And all without a tablet, smartphone, or gaming console, and guaranteed without advertising. This gives us as parents a sense of security.

Our daughter was immediately thrilled with this new way of interactive play. And if it reduces screen time, even better. Since then, she hasn’t asked if she can play a game on the tablet. There are games for different age groups, so it remains exciting for older children as well.

But how does Tonieplay actually work?

To play a Tonieplay game, you need the following:

• a Tonieplay controller
• a Tonieplay game of your choice

First, place the Tonieplay disc on the Toniebox 2 and press an ear to turn on the box. Then place the Tonieplay controller in the center of the LED ring and press the play button. The Tonieplay controller is available as a new accessory for the Toniebox 2. You need to purchase it once to play the Tonieplay games.

And now the fun begins. You are automatically guided through the game and do not have to read any complicated instructions or rules. The children simply listen to the questions and turn the controller to the correct answer.

As you can see, the operation is really child's play and works even for small children. Managing something without the help of Mom and Dad allows children to grow internally and fosters their self-confidence. And on top of that, they even practice making decisions while playing.

For us parents, it’s also quite nice when the little ones can occupy themselves for a while. My tip for you: Use the quiet minutes not only to load the dishwasher or cook but also to enjoy a coffee in peace. Me-time often gets shortchanged for us parents, especially with small children.

Our daughter is a big fan of Gabby’s Dollhouse and chose the Tonieplay game “Gabby’s cat-tastic scavenger hunt” for children aged 3 and up. First, the puzzle is assembled, depicting Gabby’s dollhouse with six different rooms. There are all sorts of things hidden there that you need to find during the “cat-tastic scavenger hunt.” Place the Tonieplay disc, which features Gabby and her friends, and the Tonieplay controller on the Toniebox 2, and the game can begin.

The game can be played alone, and there are no complicated rules. Ratzkatz guides you through the game and tells you exactly what to do. For example, you need to find items for Cuddly Cat’s sleepover party in the rooms: a pillow, a warm drink, pajamas, and so on. Once you figure out which room the sought item is hidden in, you turn the Tonieplay controller to the correct spot and press the button. You will then find out if your answer is right or wrong.

This simple game principle is understood even by the youngest, and they can wonderfully occupy themselves. A game round lasts about 10 minutes. New surprises are unlocked repeatedly, keeping the game exciting for hours.

The LED ring on the top, which lights up in various colors, not only looks great but also transforms the Toniebox into a night light with a timer and a sunrise alarm.

With the sleep timer, we can make falling asleep even more pleasant for our daughter, as the sounds and light gradually fade out. We particularly like the sunrise alarm, which wakes her up with soothing melodies and gentle light. A meaningful addition, as many children particularly enjoy using the box to fall asleep or in the morning after waking up, to snuggle a little in bed while listening to music or a story.
