Goodbye Sunburns: Decathlon Unveils This Essential Accessory to Protect Baby During the Heatwave for Under €6

Created on 23/06/2026 at 14:24, by Louise Gonzalez

For the past few days, high temperatures have returned to a large part of France. So, even though summer 2026 has just begun, protecting little ones from the sun has become an absolute priority. Good news: Decathlon offers an anti-UV accessory for under €6 that could become the essential ally for summer vacations.

Even before being exposed to the summer sun, babies are particularly affected by the heatwave of June 2026. Indeed, even though summer has not officially started, temperatures are already exceeding 30°C in several French regions. They can even rise to 40°C! This situation requires parents to be extra vigilant, especially regarding babies and young children.

French health authorities regularly remind us that infants are among the most vulnerable populations to heat. According to recommendations from Santé publique France, babies should never be directly exposed to the sun. Specifically, exposure should be avoided between 12 PM and 4 PM when UV rays are the most intense. Moreover, their bodies regulate temperature less effectively. Their skin is also much more sensitive than that of adults. Thus, heat strokes, dehydration, or sunburns can occur quickly if necessary precautions are not taken. If you wish to go out in the sun or equip them for summer vacations, in addition to a suitable swimsuit, you will need this essential accessory!

Heatwave: This Anti-UV Accessory for Babies Under €6 is a Summer Essential

To support families during vacations, Decathlon highlights a UV-protective cap specifically designed for babies. It is priced at €5.99. This cap stands out for its particularly covering shape that protects not only the face but also the ears and neck. These two areas are often exposed during walks, swims, or outdoor play.

Available in arctic blue or bubblegum pink, depending on your preferences and those of your baby, it comes in three sizes suitable for little ones. Its main advantage, however, remains its level of protection. Notably, the brand indicates that its fabric has a UPF 50+ rating, an international standard for sun protection that blocks at least 95% of UVA and 98% of UVB rays. This detail is far from trivial when we know that, according to Decathlon, "the child’s defense system develops after the age of 3". With the same exposure, the effects of the sun can thus be "2 to 3 times more significant in a child than in an adult".

UV-Protective Cap: Effective Protection, Even After Swimming

Another advantage appreciated by parents: this cap retains its protective properties even when wet. This point is essential for days at the park, beach, or pool. Indeed, frequent trips in and out of the water are common. Its quick-drying synthetic fabric also helps avoid the unpleasant sensation of wet fabric on children's heads.

But specialists remind us: no accessory, no matter how effective, can replace the essential sun protection measures. Wearing this cap should be combined with other preventive measures. This includes wearing sunglasses, regularly applying suitable sunscreen, wearing UV-protective tops or shorts, and ensuring regular hydration...

Heatwave: Protecting Babies from the Sun and Heat

The guidelines from Santé publique France are particularly clear regarding infants. Babies should never be directly exposed to the sun, even under a parasol. Indeed, reflection off sand, water, or other light surfaces can continue to expose the skin to ultraviolet rays. Authorities also recommend favoring light, covering, and UV-protective clothing. Additionally, a wide-brimmed hat or a cap covering the neck should be worn. Sunglasses meeting protection standards should also be worn.

A very high protection sunscreen must be applied to all exposed areas and reapplied every two hours. It should also be reapplied after each swim. Finally, hydration remains essential! Regularly offer drinks to children and avoid outings during the hottest hours of the day.
