7-Day Mini Challenge: Organizing & Decluttering in Family Life
Are you interested in a 7-day mini challenge with small, daily tasks for more order in your home? Discover how to declutter and organize your family life step by step.

Are you interested in a 7-day mini challenge with small, daily tasks for more order in your home? Then you should definitely keep reading! Some time ago, I started my project to declutter our entire house to bring more order and ease into our lives. I realized that it’s not always the big chaos that stresses me out. Instead, it’s often the many small things in everyday life that bother me. Whether it’s the cluttered table, the stack of papers with unfinished tasks, the bag that never seems to be where it should be, or the children’s toys left out in the living room. Chaos cannot always be avoided in family life, especially when our home is filled with things that don’t have a designated place. Therefore, the first step towards more order is to create space and sort out unnecessary items.
Daily, Small To-Dos for More Order
When our closets and drawers are stuffed with clutter, it’s hard to find a designated place for everything that is truly needed on a regular basis. Having a fixed place for every item at home is important to maintain order. That’s why I came up with this 7-Day Mini Challenge. The goal is not to achieve a perfect home, but rather to make family life a little easier step by step.
And since I know that time is often limited in a busy family life, I’ve kept the daily tasks short. Don’t know where to start with decluttering? Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the chaos? Then feel free to download the checklist, and you’ll see that it’s not hard to get started. Perhaps you just want a checklist of items you can sort out without much thought? These 11 things to declutter will help you right away.
The Challenge at a Glance
- 7 days – 7 small tasks
- maximum 10 to 15 minutes per day

- Usable even in a busy family life

Why a 7-Day Decluttering Challenge Works in Everyday Life
During my own decluttering and organizing journey, I realized that order alone does not solve problems. It only helps when it saves energy instead of creating more work. I can’t spend hours tidying up every day because, like many other families, I am already completely occupied in everyday life. Instead, I need quick and easily implementable tasks that can be integrated into my routine.
You don’t have to completely change your home.
You can make it easier for yourself piece by piece.
The 7-Day Mini Challenge: All Tasks at a Glance
7-Day Mini Challenge: Free checklist to print with daily mini tasks to check off.
Day 1: Easy Start
Task:
👉 Sort out 10 items (no matter where)
No specific room, no category, no plan. Just start.
Why this works:
The beginning is often the biggest hurdle. Today is all about getting started. And that too, without pressure.
Day 2: Clear Surfaces
Task:
👉 Clear one visible surface (table, dresser, windowsill)
What is visible occupies our subconscious. Clear surfaces create mental calmness.
Aha Moment:
Seeing less = thinking less about it.
Day 3: Everyday Annoyances
Task:
👉 Tackle the spot that annoys you daily (e.g., hallway, kitchen table, bathroom)
Why this day is important:
You will feel changes immediately here. And that is particularly motivating.
Day 4: Clothing or Bags
Task:
👉 Let go of 5 items (clothing, bags, scarves)
Keep what serves you today, not someday.
Day 5: Family Stuff
Task:
👉 Broken, unloved, forgotten
Toys, school or craft items, small stuff: Everything that is no longer used or is broken can go.
Important: Without feeling guilty.
Day 6: Paper & Small Items
Task:
👉 Sort out a stack of paper
👉 Go through a drawer of small items
For example:
- Advertisements & brochures
- Old receipts
- Instruction manuals (available online)
- Completed school notes / parent letters
- Empty batteries, broken cables, dried-out pens
Day 7: Find a Fixed Place
Task:
👉 Assign a fixed place for one item (e.g., keys, bag, mail, charging cable)
When something has its place, you don’t have to think about it every time.
That’s the moment when decluttering becomes real relief in everyday life.

This mini challenge is consciously not a restart project and not a perfection program, but an invitation to make your everyday life a little easier.
